TMONaaS - Temperature monitoring for food logistics as a service

Sponsored by: European Union through the Horizon Europe Coordination and Support Action project Up2Circ – “Boosting the uptake of circular business model, product and process innovation”, Grant Agreement number 101091367

Duration: 01.10.2024 – 31.03.2025

Asuring good storage conditions all along the supply chain is a key prerequisite for food to arrive in good and save conditions at the point of sales. The effects of violations of the required storage temperatures are often not visible immediately but only several days after the occurance. As a consequence damanged cargo cannot be easily identified at goods receiving. Therefore, temperature sensors are needed to monitor storage conditions so that the risk of accepting of damanged cargo can be reduced.

Still, today food transports still often lack basic temperature monitoring as the food sector is highly cost sensitive. tmon as a service is an EU funded project to provide food operators and logistics the most cost efficient temperature monitoring service for inner European food transports.

The project objective are to deliver temperature monitoring as a service:

    • Low cost hardware, still fullfilling legal requirments
    • Easy to handle:
      • Wireless data transfer
      • Simple and failiure-proof start stop mechanism
    • High sustainability and cost benefits by reuse of intact sensor
